2019-2020 Honors points
08/23/19: Volunteering during Freshman move-in day (2 hours)
08/29/19: First football game of the season! We won and there was great energy and school spirit on top of that.
09/06/19: Since I decided to be an Honors peer mentor over the summer, I got to attend the mixer tonight! It was a great event and an even greater way to meet and get to know new students.
09/09/19: I attended my very first non-profit board meeting with "some other place" in Beaumont. The non-profit is a fairly large operation that tends to a rainbow of needs for the community, things ranging from needs for the homeless, medical treatment to those who cannot afford it, Thanksgiving meals to those in need, holiday gifts for families, and many small day-to-day things.
09/10/19: For the first time of the year, I gave a presentation alongside Dr. Thibodeaux explaining the benefits of an ePortfolio and expanding digital literacy.
09/16/19: I had the honor of being one of the two selected student guest speakers at the annual Reaud honors college top scholars banquet. It was definitely exciting and worthwhile to share my to-date college journey with my peers, and to get to mingle with some of Lamar's distinguished faculty and alumni.
09/17/19: I attended one of the routinely scheduled AMSA meetings. This particular meeting focused on the timeline and steps to becoming a medical student, from the MCAT to applications! It was definitely beneficial to hear all of this, even though it is a little early in my course of study to start studying for the MCAT.
10/14/19: I attended this months meeting for my non-profit board, Some Other Place.
10/18/19: Volunteering (3 hours) at the Ubi Caritas date night auction. The proceeds for this event go towards affordable healthcare for the rural areas of Beaumont which made for a great volunteer event along with some of my teammates.
10/22/19: Shadowing in the O.R. at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
10/29-10/30/19: 8 hours of volunteer service! I worked the cardinal athletics haunted house fundraiser on both nights.
11/01/19: Official visit weekend! I had a great time introducing the recruits to Lamar, giving them a tour of honors college, and talking about how to balance athletics and academics as a division one athlete.
11/07-11/10/19: NMUN conference weekend! For my honors topics credit, I joined the Lamar Honors model UN team and represented the UNEA for Algeria while I was there. It was absolutely an amazing experience, and a great way to discover Washington DC.
11/07-11/10/19: While I did not get to attend due to being at the NMUN conference in DC, my peers and Dr. Thibodeaux attended the NCHC conference in NOLA to present ePortfolios and digital literacy topics. Leading up to the conference, I was able to help with the proposal, as well as help with the details of the conference!
(Thibodeaux, T. N., Dolce, J., Ahmed, S., Khan, F. & Savage, M. (2019, November). ePortfolio: A digital tool for personal and professional creativity and innovation. Panel presentation at the National Collegiate Honor’s Council (NCHC), New Orleans, LA.)
11/15/19: My roommate, Bethany, and I drove to Big Thicket National Preserve to walk the picture plant trail, as well as go to the visitors center to learn about the history of the preserve and some of the wild life there.
11/22/19: I volunteered (10 hours) with my nonprofit board to collect and then help set up the Thanksgiving store. This "store" is a huge collection of items needed to cook a Thanksgiving dinner. Families from Southeast Texas can come in and check off their grocery lists needed for a nice Thanksgiving dinner, at no expense
11/26/19: I was selected for induction into Phi Kappa Phi today! This is the oldest all-academic honor society in the U.S., reserved for juniors and seniors at the top of their class. I was honored to be both nominated and inducted and was thankful for my family, coaches, and roommate who attended the ceremony.
12/20/19: I had the opportunity to see the Houston Symphony production of Handel's Messiah with my family in downtown Houston.
02/20/2020: Myself and the other officers of MedLife hosted a tabling event at the Setzer student center to advertise our first official meeting at the end of the week.
02/26/2020: Our MedLife chapter's first official meeting! We had a GREAT turnout and amazing participation.
